TNF: Panthers at Bears

Good morning,

Let’s dive in…

Developing Stories 📰

On Thursday Night Football, the Carolina Panthers head to face the Chicago Bears. The Panthers are coming off a disappointing home loss to the Colts where they went down 27-13 as 1.5-point underdogs. The Bears suffered a loss in New Orleans, falling 24-17, but managed to cover the 10.5-point spread as favorites. Chicago is currently favored by 3.5 points at home. The game is set to kick off at 8:15 EST at Soldier Field.

Bryce Young struggled throwing three interceptions with two of them resulting in pick-sixes by Kenny Moore II. The first pick-six came just before halftime extending the Colts' lead to 17. The second occurred during a fourth-quarter comeback attempt when the Panthers were trailing by only ten points. Panthers' coach Frank Reich downplayed the significance of Bryce Young's performance, saying, "I've seen this happen to the best quarterbacks in the history of the game." Bryce Young currently ranks 26th in the NFL in passing yards and has faced challenges in his rookie season, with an 8-7 TD-INT ratio. This choice may be a source of regret for Panthers fans as the team passed on CJ Stroud who currently boasts a 14-1 TD-INT ratio. Despite their past decisions the Panthers will continue to work on putting Bryce Young in favorable positions to succeed.

The primary receiving target for the Panthers has been Adam Thielen with 62 catches this season and Jonathon Mingo who has just 20 receptions. Thielen averages 76.3 yards per game and has four touchdowns to his name. Chuba Hubbard has become the team's top rusher especially with Miles Sanders missing some games due to injury. Hubbard averages 41.0 yards per game and has one touchdown this season.

In the Bears' t game against the Saints the score was tied at 17 going into the fourth quarter. Despite outgaining the Saints 368-301 the Bears succumbed to turnovers, committing five in total, including three interceptions thrown by Tyson Bagent. The Saints didn't turn the ball over once which made the difference in the game. As for the Bears' quarterback situation, Justin Fields is listed as day-to-day after a limited participation in Monday's walk-through practice. The Bears might not want to rush Fields back, especially given their dwindling playoff hopes. If Fields remains sidelined, Tyson Bagent will start. Bagent averages 174.3 yards per game with a 3-6 TD-INT ratio. Although he had a promising start against the Raiders, he has encountered difficulties since.

On the offensive front for Chicago, DJ Moore stands out, averaging 81.7 yards per game with five touchdowns. The 6'6" tight end, Cole Kmet, is a red zone threat with five touchdowns and an average of 41.6 yards per game. With running back Khalil Herbert still sidelined, D'Onta Foreman takes the lead, averaging 57.4 yards per game and having scored two touchdowns.

Picks 🔒

Mississippi State -3.5 | State is one of few team that are returning their top 5 scorers. The Cyclones were great on defense last year ranking 9th in efficiency.

Panthers +3.5 | The Bears aren’t good enough to be favored by more than 3. The Panthers want to put #1 Bryce Young in his best position for succeeding. This game is on a short week not giving Bagnet enough time to prepare efficiently.

Warriors +3.5 | Jamal Murray’s absence might be the issue here. The Warriors have a healthy lineup. This should be a great battle but Warriors should keep it close.
