RBC Canadian Open Preview
Good morning,
Let’s dive in…
Developing Stories 📰

The RBC Canadian Open in 2023 delivered one of the most exciting finishes in PGA TOUR history with Nick Taylor becoming the first Canadian in 69 years to win his national open defeating Tommy Fleetwood in a playoff.
This year a strong Canadian contingent is looking to make more history as no Canadian has won the tournament in consecutive years since Albert Murray and Karl Keffer in 1913 and 1914. The event is returning to Hamilton Golf and Country Club, a par-70 course measuring 7,084 yards. The course has undergone a complete renovation since it last hosted the RBC Canadian Open in 2019. The restoration, led by Martin Ebert, aimed to revive Harry Colt’s original design from the 1910s. The updated course features 112 additional yards and revamped putting surfaces and bunkers.
Hamilton Golf and Country Club consistently ranked among Canada's best will host the Canadian Open for the seventh time. Its recent renovation was named "Best Renovation" of the year by Golf Digest in 2023. This week is crucial for players aiming to earn points in the Aon Swing 5 for a spot in the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday. It's also part of the final qualifying series for The Open Championship, with the top three finishers not otherwise exempt earning a spot at Royal Troon this summer.
Nick Taylor returns to defend his title after his dramatic victory last year at Toronto’s Oakdale Golf and Country Club. Taylor, who also won earlier this season at the WM Phoenix Open, is currently the top-ranked male golfer in Canada. Other Canadian PGA TOUR winners in the field include Taylor Pendrith, Corey Conners, Adam Svensson, Adam Hadwin, and Mackenzie Hughes, who hails from Hamilton.
Rory McIlroy, who won the last Canadian Open held at Hamilton in 2019 by seven shots and triumphed again in 2022, is looking to continue his success both at this tournament and this season. McIlroy finished T9 last year and has already secured two wins this season on TOUR. Shane Lowry, who finished T2 behind McIlroy the last time the RBC Canadian Open was in Hamilton, returns alongside their Ryder Cup teammate Tommy Fleetwood, who lost in a playoff to Taylor in 2023. Other notable European Ryder Cuppers include Robert MacIntyre and Nicolai Højgaard.
The field also features notable names such as three-time TOUR winner Tom Kim (making his RBC Canadian Open debut), Sahith Theegala, Cam Young, and Sam Burns. Adam Scott will be playing in the RBC Canadian Open for the first time since 2003, which was also held at Hamilton, marking just his second appearance at the event.

Picks 🔒

Nationals +132 | Nationals' starter Gore is expected to neutralize some of the Braves' most powerful hitters, particularly Olson and Riley. The Nationals' offense is likely to have success against Elder, who has given up 35 hits over just 23.2 innings. With Acuna Jr. no longer at the top of the order the Braves will need to adjust and this transition may take some time.
Royals +119 | Lugo has won his last five decisions, while Ober has historically struggled against Kansas City. This betting line appears to be an overreaction to the Royals' recent three-game losing streak and Minnesota's six wins in their last seven games.
