NBA Summer League

Good morning,

Let’s dive in…

Developing Stories 📰

As the 2023 NBA 2k24 Summer league reaches its conclusion, the emerging stars of the next generation in basketball have come into focus. Leading the spotlight early in Las Vegas was Victor Wembanyama, the highly anticipated No.1 overall pick, who had his first taste of NBA action. While he struggled in his initial game against the Charlotte Hornets, he quickly bounced back and showcased his immense talent in an impressive performance against the Portland Trial Blazers. However, the attention in the summer league wasn’t solely on Wembanyama. Another standout rookie Keyonte George, who pleasantly surprised everyone with his exceptional perimeter shooting and passing skills. Also making waves was Chet Holmgren, the NO.2 overall pick for the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2022. Holmgren had recently returned from injury and showed great promise as another rising young big man alongside Wembanyama.

Though these players grabbed much of the spotlight, there were other promising rookies in this year’s draft class who had limited opportunities to showcase their talents to fans. Scoot Henderson and Amen Thompson both suffered injuries in their debut summer league games, preventing Thompson from facing off against his twin brother, Ausar Thompson, later in the week when the Detroit Pistons and The Houston Rockets played.

Brandon Miller had a slow start but showed some improvement towards the end of his stint. However he faced challenged during the California Classic and the Vegas games particularly struggling with his 3 point shooting going 0-for-7 against the Lakers.

On the other hand, Jabari Smith Jr emerged as a strong contender for the MVP. His performances for the Rockets were truly remarkable scoring 33 points in one game including a buzzer beater and following it up with 38 points against the Pistons, leaving an impression for him for this upcoming season for him and all other newcomers.

Picks 🔒

Mariners -130 | Seattle is a slightly better home team than the Twins are as an away team. It also has the advantage in the pitching matchup. Seattle is 3-2 in Gilbert’s last 5 starts and 2-0 in his last 2 starts vs. Minnesota. Meanwhile Minnesota is 1-4 in Gray’s last 5 starts and 1-2 in his last 3 starts vs. Seattle.

Tigers -130 | The Tigers should constantly drive in runs with Riley Greene, Matt Vierling, and the rest of the lineup making hard contact and powering the ball against Jordan Lyles and the rest of the Royals pitchers. The Tigers should limit a Royals lineup that averages only 3.66 runs per game with Matt Manning pitching multiple strong innings to allow the bullpen to close out the game with a lead.
