Throughout the course paspalum grass prevails, specifically engineered to endure the tropical heat and high salt content offering a sticky spongy playing surface that yields minimal to zero roll upon impact. This characteristic becomes particularly pertinent this week, emphasizing the significance of carry distance over total driving distance as a more accurate measure of length.

At Vidanta Vallarta, there are no gimmicks; success demands both length off the tee and precision with long irons. Last season, a significant majority of approach shots fell within the 175-250 yard range, surpassing the tour average by about 20%. This venue heavily favors big hitters and rewards proficiency on the slower, paspalum greens, making it crucial to identify optimal player-course fits.

The four par 5s, spanning between 548 and 637 yards, surprisingly ranked among the easiest holes last season, despite their considerable length. Notably, the driveable par-4 7th hole, at a mere 297 yards, consistently played well below par, showcasing its unique challenge. True to Norman's design ethos, the course features an abundance of bunkers; however, many are strategically positioned to not overly penalize professional players.
