Who will take game 3?

Good morning,

Let’s dive in…

Developing Stories 📰

The 2024 College World Series Finals will conclude tonight when the top-seeded Tennessee Volunteers face the No. 3 seed Texas A&M in the decisive Game 3. Texas A&M secured a 9-5 win on Saturday, while Tennessee evened the series with a 4-1 victory on Sunday. Both teams are seeking their first college baseball national title. Zander Sechrist (5-2, 3.22 ERA) will pitch for Tennessee, and Justin Lamkin (3-2, 5.00 ERA) will start for Texas A&M.

Tennessee's offense ranks among the best in college baseball history, with 182 home runs this season—the most in program history and the second-most in NCAA history—and a team OPS of 1.020. Standout players such as second baseman Christian Moore, first baseman Blake Burke, third baseman Billy Amick, and outfielders Dylan Dreiling and Kavares Tears each have an OPS over 1.000 and are projected to be early picks in the 2024 MLB Draft.

Tennessee is also strong on the mound with Sechrist, their regular Sunday starter, who has a 5-1 record, a 3.22 ERA, and a WHIP of 1.17. Despite being the top seed, Texas A&M has arguably been the most impressive team in Omaha. The Aggies dominated Game 1 and led in Game 2 until two two-run homers shifted the momentum. Their run prevention has been excellent, allowing just 12 runs in five games.

Lamkin’s season stats may not stand out, but he has been outstanding in Omaha, holding Florida scoreless over eight innings in two appearances. Texas A&M also has several reliable relievers available, including Evan Aschenbeck, who has a 0.84 WHIP and struck out seven Tennessee batters in 2.2 innings of scoreless relief in Game 1.

Picks 🔒

Tennessee -1.5 -140 | The Vols are deservedly strong favorites for tonight's game, and we can confidently support them on the run line. Texas A&M missed their chance to clinch the series in Game 2, and Tennessee's depth should secure a decisive victory tonight.

Guardians + 102 | The Guardians have won three of Bibee's last five starts, with the young righty striking out 24 batters in his last two outings. Although he faces a challenging Orioles offense, he has consistently kept his team competitive all season. On the other hand, Orioles' starter Povich has struggled with command, walking nine and striking out nine in his first three starts. He will be up against a patient Guardians lineup that will force him to throw strikes and capitalize on base-running opportunities. Additionally, Cleveland has an advantage in the bullpen for close games late.
