MNF Jets at Niners Preview
Good morning,
Let’s dive in…
Developing Stories 📰

The New York Jets enter the season with high expectations, especially after acquiring veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Last year, the team showed flashes of potential but lacked consistency at the quarterback position. With Rodgers now leading the offense and one of the NFL's top defensive units backing him up, missing the playoffs would be a significant disappointment.
Aaron Rodgers brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record. Last season with the Green Bay Packers, the 39-year-old threw for 3,695 yards and had a 26:12 touchdown-to-interception ratio. The Jets also boast a strong rushing attack led by Breece Hall. Despite his rookie season in 2022 being cut short due to injury, the 22-year-old averaged an impressive 5.8 yards per carry. The receiving corps is highlighted by Garrett Wilson, who earned Offensive Rookie of the Year honors after recording 1,103 receiving yards. The team also added veteran wide receiver Mecole Hardman to further strengthen their offensive arsenal.
Defensively, the Jets have the potential to be one of the league's elite units. Linebacker C.J. Mosley returns after leading the team in tackles last season. The secondary is anchored by standout cornerback Sauce Gardner, who was named Defensive Rookie of the Year and led the NFL in passes defended. The Jets ranked third in pass defense last year, although their rush defense was middle-of-the-pack at 16th. With their roster's talent and depth, they're poised to make a significant impact this season.
The San Francisco 49ers are once again considered Super Bowl contenders. They've reached the NFC Championship Game in three of the past four seasons, including a Super Bowl appearance after the 2019 season where they fell to the Kansas City Chiefs. The team retains a strong roster and enters the season with high aspirations.
Quarterback Brock Purdy emerged as a surprising star late in the 2022 season. The 23-year-old stepped in due to injuries and helped lead the 49ers deep into the playoffs before suffering an elbow injury. Fully recovered, Purdy is expected to continue his development as the team's starter. The 49ers feature one of the league's premier running backs in Christian McCaffrey, who was acquired mid-season last year. McCaffrey totaled 1,139 rushing yards and is a dual-threat weapon both on the ground and through the air. The receiving group is formidable, featuring talents like Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk. Aiyuk had a breakout season in 2022 with 1,015 receiving yards, and both receivers are key components of the team's offensive strategy.
Defensively, the 49ers were among the best in the league last season, leading in total defense. They brought in Steve Wilks as their new defensive coordinator to maintain and build upon that success. The defense is led by linebacker Fred Warner and defensive end Nick Bosa, who earned Defensive Player of the Year honors after recording 18.5 sacks. While the secondary is solid, it doesn't quite match the dominance of their front seven; the team ranked 20th in pass defense but excelled in rush defense, finishing first in the league.

Picks 🔒

Jets +4 | The New York Jets have a strong team on both offense and defense. Aaron Rodgers is healthy and has looked good in practice, even though he didn’t play in the preseason. Rodgers has a great track record against the 49ers, with 20 touchdowns and only 2 interceptions. While the 49ers' defense is good, ranked 14th in pass defense last year, Rodgers should still perform well.
