The FedEx St. Jude Classic at TPC Southwind marks the first of three FedEx Cup playoff events, signaling the end of the main PGA Tour season. The top 70 players in the standings are in Memphis this week, with the top 50 advancing to the BMW Championship, and finally, the season's top 30 golfers competing at The Tour Championship at East Lake. The winner of this week's tournament will earn 2,000 FedEx points and $3.6 million of the $20 million purse, positioning them well to claim the $18 million FedEx Cup championship prize.

Though this is only the third year TPC Southwind has hosted the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the course has been a venue for PGA Tour events since 1989. Known for its fast Bermuda greens and rough, the course rewards players with strong tee-to-green skills and challenges them with numerous water hazards.

In previous years, the winning scores have been 15-under par, and with a smaller field this year, another low score is expected. TPC Southwind is a 7,244-yard, par-70 course that opened in 1988, featuring 94 bunkers and 10 water hazards. The 14th hole, a 239-yard par 3, is among the toughest on the PGA Tour. Notably, only seven players have won the St. Jude Championship multiple times, including Vijay Singh with four wins, and Dustin Johnson with three.
