Who will take home the FedEx Cup in Memphis
Good morning,
Let’s dive in…
Developing Stories 📰

We have finally reached the FedEx Cup Playoffs. TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee, will host the FedEx St. Jude Championship, which will play as a par 70 measuring 7,243 yards and features Bermuda grass greens. Being that this is now the playoffs, we have a 70-man, no-cut event ahead. The field is loaded with most of the top players in the world in attendance, led by Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIIroy and John Rahm.
Designed by Ron Prichard in the late 1980s, this TPC track hosted more than 30 PGA tour events. It hosted the FedEx St Jude Classic from 1989 to 2018, got bumped for 3 years to WGC status and shifted to a playoff event last year where Will Zalatoris won beating Sepp Straka in a playoff. As Justin Thomas said last year, “It’s veery similar to East Lake where it’s right in front of you and super old school. You’ve just got to put the ball in the fairway and then if you do, you have some scrabble clubs into some greens where you can take advantage and make a lot of birdies.
The Tricky bermudagrass rough is not fun ti play from especially when you have water in play on 11 holes. Add that with tiny green complexes and finding fairways becomes top priority. That is why we see a lot of golfers club down and keep driver in their bag on a lot of par 4s. The exception to that is when the course softens up so keep an eye on the interviews in the lead-up for potential pointers on how the fairways are rolling.
Finding the greens has been easy in the past where the field has found 73% when attacking from the fairway. Golfers that miss the fairway find the green 41% of the time, one of the harshest penalties for missing a fairway that we see all year. The greens run very pure with golfers one-putting 44.6% of the time last year. Thomas pointed out he correlation with East Lake with some other comparable courses being Harbour Town Links, TPC River Highlands, Muirfield Village, and TPC Sawsgras. Some common themes include performance on bermudagrass tracks, courses with a lot of water hazards to navigate around, courses with a big penalty for missing the fairway, and courses that allow you or force you to club down on the tee boxes.

Picks 🔒

Marlins +110 | Cueto, who spent his first 7-plus MLB season with the Reds, makes his first road start of the season in his old stomping grounds. He’ll face a skidding Cincinnati team that has dropped 7 of the past 8 games overall.
Brewers -1.5 (-120) | The Brewers are a decent play on the run line in the series finale. Flexen has been very giving on the road, and you need to keep fading him and his team until he starts to make significant progress away from home. He also has a horrible 8.66 ERA across 17 2/3 IP in two daytime starts and five relief appearances in his time with Seattle.
