Lillard sets new milestone, scoring 71

Good morning,

Let’s dive in…

Developing Stories

Damian Lillard went off Sunday night and achieved some new milestones in the process. Lillard scored 41 points in the first half and got a career-high 71 points in the Trail Blazers 131-114 win over the Houston Rockets. Lillard was 22-38 from the field and made a franchise record 13 three pointers while playing 39 minutes. Lillard now has five 60-point games, trailing Kobe Bryant’s six and Wilt Chamberlain’s 61. He has the 8th highest scoring game in NBA history and at 32 he is the oldest to have a 70-point game. Only Wilt Chamberlain, Kobe Bryant and David Thompson have scored more points in a single game. At halftime Lillard enter the locker room with 41 points with eight 3 pointers, going 8-11 with 25 in nine minutes in the second quarter. Lillard kept going, hitting 3 pointer after 3 pointer and getting to 71 points before the night was over. He was trying to reach Klay Thompson’s single-game 3-point record of 14 but couldn’t quite get there. Lillard still broke a franchise record for made threes in a game. He finished with six rebounds and six assists and shot a perfect 14-of-14 from the free-throw line. Shortly after the game Lillard had to give a blood-drawn drug test, a first in his career.

West Virginia +5.5 | The Cyclones are currently on a four-game losing streak. West Virginia has been in better form and has advantages to help them get the edge. West Virginia should defuse Iowa State’s defense by getting to the free throw line. The Cyclones are allowing teams to score 22.4% of their points from the free-throw line. The Big 12 has been competitive all year and should see the same in this matchup.
